The automotive forecast calls for continued momentum in 2016. Last year, Toyota, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler all posted double-digit year-over-year January sales increases … and the industry as a whole was up nearly 14%.

Should this prove to be true, it would be the seventh consecutive year of increased sales, making the dog days of 2009 nothing more than a painful distant memory.
The combination of cheap gas prices, low auto loan interest rates and an ever-improving job market have consumers looking to buy bigger-ticket items – including automobiles; hence, the forecast for continued momentum. It all adds up to the cautiously optimistic projection of a record-setting 18 million new cars sold in 2016.
This article by Forbes suggests a sales slowdown in 2017 because of predicted interest rate increases and lower used-car prices (which also means lower trade-in values). For that reason alone, 2016 should be viewed as an opportunity to be maximized to its fullest potential.
