Status quo does not bring about positive change at any business; instead, it results in more of the same as what you’re getting now. When a dealer is sincerely looking for a way to increase foot traffic and his/her bottom line, they must be willing to be open-minded as they look for game-changing differences.
They must realize that bringing about change takes real work. It isn’t done overnight, and sometimes wrong decisions are made before right ones are found. But to get to where they want to go, they must be prepared to work at it!
They must be clear about their ultimate goal. If it’s ambiguous, like “more customers” or “more sales,” it becomes easier to take your eyes off your ultimate objective.
They must be willing to take an honest look at their business. What is working? What isn’t? What are some parts of the dealership that could flourish if given extra attention?
They need to get their employees onboard. Together, a dealership’s staff can get a lot more done – in a shorter period of time – than the dealer working alone. You provide the leadership and encouragement, and your staff will follow – at least, the ones worth keeping will. While doing so, maintain a positive attitude, too, as this can also become infectious.
They must always allow the freedom for employees to question why things are done a certain way. There very well could be a better way out there just waiting to be discovered.
Finally, success should be rewarded. If someone has a great idea that helps your business, be sure to recognize them for it!
