Is Your Leadership Group Effective?

LeadershipIs your leadership group providing the proper direction for your staff? It’s a good question; after all, just because someone is a manager, they’re not automatically a leader of people. When we think of leaders, we imagine high-level politicians, military leaders, CEOs and the like. Throughout history, people have needed those who can provide leadership; individuals they can follow confidently. This is also true at an automotive dealership.

Signs of Leadership

The best dealership leaders are the ones who can gain the trust of others. They are able to give mutually agreed-upon responsibilities to their staff members. They don’t panic when something unforeseen happens; instead, they quickly, calmly and decisively adjust. They have the desire and skill to inspire others. They are willing to listen to others’ ideas and suggestions. They are approachable. They are not afraid to make unpopular decisions they believe are in the best interest of the dealership. They learn from their mistakes, seeing them as an opportunity to grow as a leader and business professional. They serve as a coach. They set a good example simply by how they conduct themselves on a daily basis. They establish goals for the dealership and its employees, and work hard to achieve them. They are always looking for ways to make themselves better – so they can make their employees better, too.

Even if you’re not a fan of his company, you have to appreciate this leadership quote from Sam Walton: Outstanding people go out of their way to boost the self-esteem of their personnel. If people believe in themselves, it’s amazing what they can accomplish.

Good leadership produces tremendously positive employee morale. Through the trickle-down effect, happy employees result in satisfied customers … exactly what you’re looking for as an automobile dealer.
